Aéroport de Juanda Int'l (SUB)
Juanda International Airport (IATA: SUB, ICAO: WARR) is a prominent gateway situated in East Java, Indonesia, serving the bustling city of Surabaya. Officially inaugurated on December 7, 1964, Juanda International has evolved from a military airfield to one of the busiest airports in Indonesia. It is named in honor of Djuanda Kartawidjaja, the last Prime Minister of Indonesia.
Conveniently located approximately 20 kilometers south of Surabaya, in the suburb of Sidoarjo, the airport acts as both an international and domestic hub for air travel. Spanning over 3,300 hectares, Juanda International encompasses a single runway and two passenger terminals—Terminal 1 for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international flights and select domestic routes.
In terms of statistics, Juanda International Airport is an aviation powerhouse. It handles over 400 daily flights, accommodating around 20 million passengers annually. The airport hosts more than 30 airlines, including key players like Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and AirAsia, connecting travelers to destinations across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
Juanda International's strategic significance is underscored by its robust infrastructure and continuous improvements, including runway extensions and terminal upgrades, aimed at enhancing passenger experience and operational efficiency. As Surabaya's primary air gateway, Juanda International Airport plays a crucial role in facilitating economic activity and tourism, bolstering the city's status as an important commercial and cultural hub in Indonesia.
